Muscat, 24 January 2016 – Takatuf Oman, the Human Capital solutions provider, signed a sponsorship agreement with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Mitsui), the diversified and comprehensive Japanese trading, investment and services enterprise to support young Omanis who participate in the Takatuf Scholars’ Programme and earn international scholarships.

Mr. Ibrahim Al Harthi, Acting CEO, signed the agreement on behalf of Takatuf, and Mr. Hiroyuki Tsurugi, Managing Officer and Chief Operating Officer – Energy Business Unit 1, signed for Mitsui. HE Mitsugu Saito, Ambassador of Japan to the Sultanate of Oman, Eng. Isam bin Saud Al Zadjali, CEO of Oman Oil Company and Mr. Norio Tokuda – Managing Director, Mitsui & Co. Middle East Ltd., were joined by official representatives of both parties at the ceremony.

Mitsui is the first international company to join the network of sponsors investing in Oman’s youth to develop future leaders. In addition to supporting participation in the Takatuf Scholars Programme Enrichment Programme, two students will be awarded an international scholarship for high school completion and undergraduate study in Japan. The Takatuf Scholars Programme core task is preparing Omani youth for the 21st Century Global Knowledge Economy, as they are the necessary engine for growth and prosperity for the Sultanate of Oman.

Commenting on this occasion, Ibrahim Al Harthi said: “Takatuf assists its client organisations through providing strategic human capital solutions that are designed to lead us into the future in the ever-changing business environment of an increasingly global market. Planning for the future means preparing Omani talent now to be ready for the challenges we anticipate, but do not yet know. Mitsui has joined us in a vital aspect of this work, and is investing in a Programme that has proven effective in positioning bright Omani students in great schools and universities around the world. This will now extend our footprint to include Japan, and we anticipate that the first Mitsui international scholars will create even better relationships between the two countries in the years to come.”

Mitsui seeks to build a track record of service in Japan and worldwide as a company that is valued by society and contributes to a better, more sustainable future where the aspirations of people can be fulfilled. Mitsui considers the Takatuf Scholars Programme to be a great platform for harnessing education to meet workplace needs and preparing young Omani students to be future leaders.

Mr. Tokuda said “Mitsui has begun business in Oman in 1979 through a variety of business projects, including oil & gas project, power plant business, and chemical plant project. Through those businesses, we feel Oman is very close to us. Our company is most honoured to be a Takatuf partner, and take an opportunity to support talented Omani students. We really support Takatuf’s idea to develop future leaders of Oman. We would like motivated Omani students to study in Japanese top-class universities, learn the Japanese culture through the international scholarship program, and then contribute to strengthening the relationship between Oman and Japan.”
